Dahlonega, Georgia is a city I had never heard of until I had two friends get married there. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Dahlonega was a charming city full of character. The city maintains a country vibe, with its mountainous environment and curved roads. It is full of charming inns and bed and breakfasts, one of which is called Mountain Laurel Creek Inn & Spa. Mountain Laurel’s charm is one I had never experienced at other Bed and Breakfast’s; it is truly an oasis. Each room overlooks the mountains, and you may wake up in the morning to find ducks wandering the vast landscape.
Mountain Laurel’s Innkeepers, Dennis and Davis, maintain a gorgeous outdoor oasis, which consists of walking paths to hike, hammocks to relax in and endless flowers to admire. Each room consists of a mountain view, is uniquely decorated with one of a kind artwork and has a hot tub to relax in after a long day of hiking. The rooms do not have a television in them, which encourages relaxation and meditation. However, you will not want for anything there. Step outside your room, and you will find a “theater” with a television and DVD’s that may be rented out for the night, countless books to borrow, board games to play and even a wine bar. The wine bar is called “The Copper Penny”; it is adorably decorated with copper pennies. Dahlonega is home to several wineries; you may sample the wines in The Copper Penny, or buy a bottle (or two) to take to your room. Spa therapy services are also offered, from facials to massages to reflexology treatments.
Dennis and David go above and beyond the call of duty for their guests. I am a vegetarian, and they made sure to provide a vegetarian breakfast for me each morning. They have fresh baked cookies available every day, and are always on site to answer questions about the area All it takes it the ring of a bell if they are not nearby. I enjoyed reading the guest entry book in the balcony of our room, and discovered this is the perfect bed and breakfast for a wedding, a romantic anniversary, a girls’ weekend and especially good for a quiet weekend away for new parents.
Dennis and David do an excellent job, whether they are aware of it or not, of maintaining a sustainable Inn. We found no evidence of paper plates or cups. The food tasted fresh, organic and delicious. The indoor and outdoor environments were pristine; it is clear the owner’s maintain their inn with compassion, awareness and love. I highly recommend the Mountain Laurel Creek Inn & Spa to any person looking for a meditative, peaceful and rejuvenating weekend.
